Frequently Asked Questions

My creditors are calling me at work and this is not allowed by my employer. What can I do?
Write the creditor a letter stating that you cannot accept calls at work and that they are putting your job at risk by calling you there. This is not a step we can do for you. The letter must come from you and be signed by you. It is advisable to give the creditor a contact phone number in the letter. That number should be 661-257-9755.

What do I say to my creditors when they call me?
You should use the following script whenever a creditor calls concerning an account you have given to The Debt Solution. You must follow the script exactly. If you do so over and over again, the creditors will get the message - eventually. They will see that calling you will do them no good and that they will need to deal directly with us.

Client: Hello

Creditor: I need to speak to Mr. or Mrs. _______________ concerning this overdue amount!!!!

Client: Please call The Debt Solution at (661) 257-9755. Thanks for calling. (Hang up the phone at this point.)

IMPORTANT!! Do not engage in other conversations with the callers! Do not answer any other questions. Do not get upset. Always be friendly. Stick exactly to the script.

Creditors are saying they don't deal with you/third party companies. Can you still settle my debt?
Yes we can. In fact, we have had clients call us asking this question the same day we did one or more settlements with the creditor who said this. As above, we occasionally encounter collection agencies or small lenders we haven't dealt with before, but we know and settle with the larger creditors and collection agencies in the country.

How and when do my creditors get contacted?

We will send notices to your creditors explaining that you are in our program and how we work. However there is a catch to this step - we cannot send these notices out until we have received your completed Power of Attorney form(s). Completed means we have a Power of Attorney form for you and any "co-makers" or "co-signers" on your accounts, signed by that person and either witnessed by two adults who are not relatives or notarized. If we do not receive these forms or if we receive them incomplete, we cannot contact your creditors on your behalf. This is very important for you to understand.

You can see whether or not we have sent out notices to your creditors on the client website.

What do I do if I get a letter/statement from creditors? Should I contact them? Why they are not contacting you directly?
No do not contact the creditors directly. You're very likely receiving these items because one or more of your creditors did not update their computers yet. Please forward all written communications you receive from creditors to us at:

The Debt Solution
25115 Avenue Stanford Suite 300
PO Box 801090
Santa Clarita, CA 91380-1090

If you have a fax machine handy, and you feel it is urgent enough, you may fax these documents to us at (661) 702-0317.

We will respond to your creditor and remind them to update their computers to reflect the above mailing address. It is important for you to also understand that we cannot force them to enter our address in their computers. We'll put forth our best efforts to do so, but they may still send you mail.

Where do I send new creditor notices? How can I get confirmation it was received?

You may send these to:
The Debt Solution
25115 Avenue Stanford Suite 300
PO Box 801090
Santa Clarita, CA 91380-1090

If you have a fax machine handy, and you feel it is urgent enough, you may fax these documents to us at (661) 702-0317.

There are several ways to confirm we received these documents. If a debt has changed hands and you sent us the documents reflecting that there will be a note under "Account Activity" on our client website reflecting that we have updated our computers. You can send the documents to us return receipt requested and the post office will return a card to you letting you know it was delivered. You can also include a note requesting that we notify you when we have received the package. We often send e-mails out acknowledging receipt of important documents, but if you would like something by fax or regular mail; it would be helpful to include a note to that effect.

Creditors are saying you never sent a proposal.
Because the creditors think we are a debt consolidation company, they may be waiting for a proposal from us as to interest rates and monthly payments. They may also be waiting for monthly payments to them. We do not send them proposals, nor do we send them monthly payments. We negotiate your debt with one creditor at a time and settle with one creditor at a time.

Some may more specifically say that we have not sent them a settlement proposal. That may very well be true. We do not send settlement proposals to the creditors until you have the funds to settle. Even then we can only settle as many accounts as you have funds to settle. Therefore we cannot send proposals to all creditors regularly. A specific creditor may not have received a settlement proposal, but we may very well be in negotiations with another of your creditors or you simply may not have sufficient funds to settle with that creditor.

Creditors are still adding interest and late fees. How can I stop them and how am I going to settle my debt with this?
Unfortunately there is no way to stop the creditors from charging interest and late fees. When it comes time to negotiate a settlement for you we negotiate the settlement based on the balance at the time negotiations begin. Thus you can still settle the debt because our negotiations include the principal plus any interest or additional fees the creditor is charging you.
